Mendeley
Mendeley is a desktop and web program for managing and sharing research papers, discovering research data and collaborating online. It combines Mendeley Desktop, a PDF and reference management application (available for Windows, Mac and Linux) with Mendeley Web, an online social network for researchers.
Mendeley was founded in November 2007 and is based in London. The first public beta version was released in August 2008. The team comprises researchers, graduates, and open source developers from a variety of academic institutions. The company's investors include the former executive chairman of Last.fm, the former founding engineers of Skype, and the former Head of Digital Strategy at Warner Music Group, as well as academics from Cambridge and Johns Hopkins University.
Mendeley has won several awards.

Mendeley groups used in the LUOERL project
We have initially set up Mendeley Groups as follows. This structure will be subject to experience and feedback.
- Learner Use of OER – where the team collects material and members of the Community can “Follow” the group to see what is collected
- Learner Use of non-OER Online Resources – as above but for online resources that are not OER
- OER - non-policy aspects - student, teacher, institution – where we collect general resources on OER on these topics – this is in part a “holding pen” from where material may be moved once it has been analysed (policy aspects are dealt with separately because of another project – see National Policies for OER Uptake). There is an existing OER group but since it is not owned by a member of the team (or of JISC or HE Academy) we have no guarantees as to its longevity or quality.
- LUOERL for the community – this is to be used for members of the JISC and HEA communities to suggest papers for review and analysis by the LUOERL team. (Members of the Community cannot be made Members of our other Groups as then they could modify or even delete material, or add irrelevant (in the team's view) material.)
- For internal use, we have also set up a Mendeley for Sero private group where we are collecting relevant support and policy/project material (especially from JISC and universities) on Mendeley. Summaries of this will be made available at project end.
